In 2019 you were the recipient of a gift from Keybase if you were a user at the time. You were gifted cryptocurrency. You forgot about them and now you'd like to exchange them for actual cash or other currency. How to do that?
Keybase no longer allows you to transfer Lumens directly to another wallet. Do you even own a crypto wallet? I didn't. Well, technically I did because Keybase holds that wallet.
I made a new wallet on Lobstr. Before you do this, make sure when you create your account you select connect to wallet instead of creating a wallet from scratch. I made this mistake and it took me an hour of my time to figure out that I needed to delete it.
What do you need?
Open a terminal and type:
keybase wallet accounts
And it'll print your XLM wallet key. You'll also need the secret key that you can copy from the Keybase app.
Now you're ready to log in to Coinbase. You'll need to create an account there and verify it with a legal document like your passport.
Then you need to press a shiny button in the top corner called "send & receive". Click the "Receive" tab. Then you'll see a drop down menu. It's not obvious but you can click on "BTC", the default coin, and select a different coin. In our case we need XLM Lumens.
You'll see a QR code but ignore that. Go back to your Lobstr account and click on Send on the left. You'll be asked to paste the crypto address that was shown to you when the QR code popped up. Don't forget to add the memo key as well otherwise it won't work.
Test with a small amount first!
Now you're free to do as you please. I exchanged my XLM coins for BTC and ETH. I'll cash out later, but it's really simple to do. If you need help anyway, buy my short guide on how to buy and sell crypto.
